Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?
I am in the Global Health Track and the Osteopathic Recognition Track, and I also have an interest in Women’s Health.
Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?
The people involved with the UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program are truly one of a kind. I had an incredible virtual interview with several different faculty/staff members, and the second look was what really sealed the deal for me. The residents were smart, kind, and funny, and the faculty were knowledgeable, approachable, and extreme proponents of inclusivity and resident wellness. I knew these people and this program could make a difference in the trajectory of my career as a Family Medicine Physician, and I knew the diverse population in Pittsburgh would help provide me with a well-rounded medical education. Aside from that, the city of Pittsburgh has so much to offer and seemed like a place I would really enjoy living in. There is a lot of different art and culture to experience here and it’s so fun to explore the different boroughs and find new places to eat and hangout!
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
My goal in residency is to become a well-rounded and knowledgeable Family Medicine physician capable of helping my patients reach their health goals. I know that the staff at this program and the patient population at UPMC Shadyside will provide me with the education and tools I need to help all my future patients – regardless of their social background, race, or culture. I look forward to being part of the Osteopathic Recognition Track and further developing my OMM skills, and I’m thrilled to be a participant in the Global Health Track which allows me to travel to Honduras and serve the community there while working to improve my medical Spanish proficiency. I also hope to maintain my interests outside of medicine during residency and take care of my own well-being, as this allows me to be present and fully dedicated to my patients when working.
Do you have any special interests outside of residency?
Outside of residency, I like to spend as much time as I can catching up with my family and friends. I love playing cards or board games and taking my dog for hikes with my fiancé. I’m a compulsive baker thanks to my severe case of sweet tooth but also a pretty decent cook!
