Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?
I am not in a special track yet, but I have interests in addiction medicine, palliative medicine, and community health.
Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?
The conversations I had with faculty showed me that we have the same core values in medicine. Not only were they kind people, but they also had innovative ideas and participated in exciting< programs that put compassion into action. Pittsburgh is a vibrant city that allows me to have a life outside of medicine. It reminds me a lot of Philadelphia! There is also a strong street medicine program here that I plan to participate in.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
My goals are firstly to accumulate the skills and knowledge to be a great physician. It is important that I not only learn medicine, but I also get a solid understanding of the social safety network available to people here. This includes local food pantries, shelters, employment fairs, daycares, etc.– so that I know where to refer my patients to get comprehensive care even outside of the office.
Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?
Outside of residency, I enjoy rock climbing (especially bouldering). I also like to cook, explore restaurants, and in general appreciate good food. To wind down, I read, watch reality tv, and spend time with my cat Donut.
