Christie Pai, Do

  • Third Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

No, but I am interested in underserved medicine, lifestyle medicine, health care disparities, behavioral health, addiction medicine, global health, and community medicine.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?

One, I could tell from my interview with the faculty, residents, and administrative staff that UPMC Shadyside would provide a positive-growth-mindset learning environment that would cultivate me into a compassionate and competent physician. Two, UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency has a strong focus on underserved work and behavioral health. Three, the patient population would be like the types of patients I would love to work with in my future practice.

Additionally, I am excited to explore Pittsburgh as it is a vibrant city with unique neighborhoods, tons of green spaces, and not too far from home!

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goals include being a well-rounded family physician who is not only personable, but well versed in current medical literature and equipped with tools to address healthcare disparities. Additionally, be able communicate in a way that is compassionate and informative. I also plan to pursue my various special interests in behavioral health, addiction medicine, lifestyle medicine, and underserved medicine.

Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?

Outside of residency, I love to walk and explore different neighborhoods, restaurants, and coffee shops around the city! I also enjoy running, karaoke, and finding new shows to watch.
