Claire Schoyer, DO

 • First Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

I am not currently part of a special track. While I am excited to train in full-spectrum family medicine, I am especially passionate about Street Medicine and low-barrier healthcare. I am also very interested in HIV care, Hep C, MAT/MOUD, harm reduction, gender affirming care, and reproductive justice.

<Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?

I was born in Pittsburgh and have spent most of my life here. I am grateful to be able to train in my hometown and learn from the community how to best serve them. Shadyside offers numerous opportunities to pursue my passions and a real full-spectrum family medicine experience. When I was looking at programs, it was Shadyside's commitment to equity, inclusivity, and social justice that drew me here.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goal is to learn how to really be a partner with my patients and fiercely advocate for them. To grow my interpersonal and clinical skills in a supportive environment. To understand what health disparities, exist in the community and learn how I can best address them as a provider. To graduate as a well-rounded, evidence-based, compassionate physician committed to social justice.

Do you have any special interests outside of residency?

I enjoy crafting, hiking, dancing, thrifting, swimming in natural bodies of water, and camping, especially with my three kids. I love growing things, especially flowers, and cooking dinner for friends and family. Also, I enjoy rewatching my favorite TV shows and reading/more often
listening to fiction.
