Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?
I’m not currently in a specific track. My interests include behavioral health and addiction medicine.
Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?
I enjoyed my interview at UPMC Shadyside the most – all my interviews were very conversational, and I got the impression that the residents were happy here. Also, as a medical student I was split between Psychiatry and Family Medicine. I ultimately decided on Family Medicine and wanted a program that placed a strong emphasis on behavioral health, which I felt UPMC Shadyside did well. I enjoy the vibes of Pittsburgh. Each neighborhood feels unique. It’s a small enough city that living here isn’t overwhelming. Compared to back home, it’s quite affordable to live here. I’m Chinese American and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of Chinese food here.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
OB/GYN and inpatient medicine weren’t my strong suits in medical school. While here, I'm determined to approach those rotations with my best foot forward and learn as much as I can. I feel getting a strong background in those areas is necessary for me to deliver the best,
comprehensive care to my future patients.
Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?
I enjoy woodworking – I’ve built several pieces of furniture. I consider myself handy and regularly do DIY projects. I’m not great at chess but love playing it. I love spending time with my cat, Naga.
