Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why
Pittsburgh?
I couples-matched with my partner who is doing Emergency Medicine. UPMC had great programs for both of us. Specifically, I was drawn to the family medicine program’s robust OMT education, and the fact that even as an MD they were willing to work with me to advance my skills.
My partner and I came to visit for a weekend while making our rank lists because neither of us had ever been to Pittsburgh before, and we immediately fell in love with the program, the food, the people, and the skyline. We are so excited to have matched here.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
My goals while I am here are numerous, but I think the biggest one is to soak up as much information and experience as I can. I want to really take advantage of the opportunities presented to me. Some specific areas I hope to gain competency in is OMT, running centering pregnancy groups, and integrative medicine.
I hope to supply holistic primary care and integrative medicine to a rural outpatient practice upon graduation. I believe by learning a wide range of skills I will then be able to apply them in an outpatient setting, I will be able to serve this future patient panel with the best care.
Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?
Outside of medicine, I have a passion for swimming. I am not very fast, but it’s my favorite form of exercise and I adore all types of water. You can find me at the JCC pool during the week, and any time I have off I travel to a beach. I also enjoy reading, gardening, and going to Frick Park with my new puppy and partner.
