Sharon Wu, DO

  • First Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

I am in the Osteopathic Recognition Track. I also have interests in community medicine, precision medicine, and public health.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?

I applied to the program after hearing about the friendly and collaborative work environment. I enjoyed my interactions with the residents, staff, and faculty throughout the application process. I was also impressed by the wide array of electives and resources available to Shadyside residents. Years ago, I had volunteered for the UPMC Shadyside Hospital Elder Life Program, which was instrumental in my decision to pursue medicine. During that time, I attended Carnegie Mellon University as an undergraduate student and enjoyed living in the city. After spending time in Baltimore and Kansas City for my gap years and medical school training, I am excited to be back in Pittsburgh.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goal is to work with people of multiple walks-of-life and develop leadership skills so that I become a better advocate for my patients during residency and beyond.

Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?

I enjoy listening to podcasts, going to concerts, and exploring new restaurants.
